Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe,
You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.

And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted.

So you will see and they will see
بِأَييِّكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ ( 6 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 6
Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil].
Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.
فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ ( 8 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 8
Then do not obey the deniers.
They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].
And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer
هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ ( 11 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 11
[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -
A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful,
Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender.

Because he is a possessor of wealth and children,
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ ( 16 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 16
We will brand him upon the snout.
Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning
وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ ( 18 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 18
Without making exception.
So there came upon the garden an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ ( 20 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 20
And it became as though reaped.
فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِينَ ( 21 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 21
And they called one another at morning,
[Saying], "Go early to your crop if you would cut the fruit."
فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ ( 23 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 23
So they set out, while lowering their voices,
[Saying], "There will surely not enter it today upon you [any] poor person."
And they went early in determination, [assuming themselves] able.
But when they saw it, they said, "Indeed, we are lost;
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ ( 27 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 27
Rather, we have been deprived."
The most moderate of them said, "Did I not say to you, 'Why do you not exalt [Allah]?' "
They said, "Exalted is our Lord! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."
Then they approached one another, blaming each other.
They said, "O woe to us; indeed we were transgressors.
Perhaps our Lord will substitute for us [one] better than it. Indeed, we are toward our Lord desirous."
Such is the punishment [of this world]. And the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
Indeed, for the righteous with their Lord are the Gardens of Pleasure.
أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ ( 35 ) Al-Qalam ( The Pen ) - Ayaa 35
Then will We treat the Muslims like the criminals?
What is [the matter] with you? How do you judge?
Or do you have a scripture in which you learn
That indeed for you is whatever you choose?
Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge?
Ask them which of them, for that [claim], is responsible.
Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.
The Day the shin will be uncovered and they are invited to prostration but the disbelievers will not be able,
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.
So leave Me, [O Muhammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies the Qur'an. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muhammad], and be not like the companion of the fish when he called out while he was distressed.
If not that a favor from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured.
And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad."
But it is not except a reminder to the worlds.

  • Tawhid of Allah's Most Beautiful Names and Lofty AttributesThe author presents the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, which is the creed of the first few generations of Muslims and those who followed in their footsteps. Besides outlining the principles and foundations of this creed he also highlights some of the foreign ideas and deviant concepts that have crept into the hearts and minds. The style in which this book has been written relates more to a textbook than to a book for casual reading. The author has carefully structured the book, divided it into clearly headed sections and provided all the necessary definitions and explanations that will facilitate a clear understanding of this immensely important branch of knowledge.

  • The History of the Quranic Text from Revelation to Compilation - A Comparative Study with the Old and New TestamentsThe author said in his introduction: This work comprises a short introduction to the history of the Quran, its recording and its collection. The reader may therefore be puzzled as to why one third of the material in this book tackles the Old Testament (OT) and the New Testament (NT), wondering what significance this has on the Quran’s history. This significance shall, I hope, be made clear as the chapters progress, since I have attempted to present only those details which have a direct bearing on the current subject matter.

  • The World of the Jinn and DevilsIn the work before you, Dr. Umar Al-Ashqar, a well-known contemporary scholar of Islam, has attempted to tackle two important topics. The first topic is that of the characteristics of the jinn. This is a difficult topic for many reasons. One of them is that the devils are known to be liars. Thus, even when a person does encounter them, he cannot put much trust in what they claim about themselves. Therefore, one must virtually rely only on the statements of the Quran and the authentic hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him). The second topic is the characteristics and methodology of Satan himself. It is no coincidence that Allah has mentioned Satan, his goals, his plots and his allies throughout the entire Quran. This is because Satan is man’s greatest enemy. The believer must know the key to defending himself from Satan.

  • Evolution of FiqhThe author says in the introduction of the second edition, “The overall purpose of this book is to acquaint the reader with the historical factors behind the formulation of Islamic law (Fiqh), in order that he or she may better understand how and why the various schools of Islamic law (Madh-habs) came about. It is hoped that this understanding will in turn, provide a basis for overcoming the petty differences and divisions which occur when present-day followers of different schools of people without definite schools try to work together. Thus, another aim of this book is to provide a theoretical framework for the reunification of the Madhhabs and an ideological basis for Islamic community work free from the divisive effects of Madh-hab factionalism.” The book consists of six chapters: foundation, establishment, building, flowing, consolidation, and stagnation and decline.

  • The Beginning and The EndIslam is the religion which Allah has chosen, is pleased with and has legislated for His slaves. People are in dire need of its laws to organize the affairs of their private and public lives, their internal and external affairs. Besides the great importance paid in Islam to general principles and fundamentals, it has not neglected secondary issues.
