سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ( 1 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 1
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall-
لِّلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ ( 2 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 2
The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,-
مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ ( 3 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 3
(A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent.
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ( 4 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 4
The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:
فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا ( 5 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 5
Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).
إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا ( 6 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 6
They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):
وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا ( 7 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 7
But We see it (quite) near.
يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ ( 8 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 8
The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,
وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ ( 9 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 9
And the mountains will be like wool,
وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ( 10 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 10
And no friend will ask after a friend,
يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ ( 11 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 11
Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ ( 12 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 12
His wife and his brother,
وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ ( 13 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 13
His kindred who sheltered him,
وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ ( 14 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 14
And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him:
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ ( 15 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 15
By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-
نَزَّاعَةً لِّلشَّوَىٰ ( 16 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 16
Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!-
تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ( 17 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 17
Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).
وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ ( 18 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 18
And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!
إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا ( 19 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 19
Truly man was created very impatient;-
إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا ( 20 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 20
Fretful when evil touches him;
وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا ( 21 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 21
And niggardly when good reaches him;-
إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ ( 22 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 22
Not so those devoted to Prayer;-
الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ ( 23 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 23
Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;
وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَّعْلُومٌ ( 24 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 24
And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.
لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ ( 25 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 25
For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);
وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ ( 26 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 26
And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;
وَالَّذِينَ هُم مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِم مُّشْفِقُونَ ( 27 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 27
And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ ( 28 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 28
For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ ( 29 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 29
And those who guard their chastity,
إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ ( 30 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 30
Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ ( 31 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 31
But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;-
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ ( 32 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 32
And those who respect their trusts and covenants;
وَالَّذِينَ هُم بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ ( 33 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 33
And those who stand firm in their testimonies;
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ ( 34 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 34
And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;-
أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُّكْرَمُونَ ( 35 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 35
Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss).
فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ ( 36 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 36
Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee-
عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ ( 37 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 37
From the right and from the left, in crowds?
أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ ( 38 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 38
Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss?
كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُم مِّمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ ( 39 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 39
By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know!
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ ( 40 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 40
Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly-
عَلَىٰ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ( 41 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 41
Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan).
فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ ( 42 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 42
So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!-
يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ ( 43 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 43
The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),-
خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ ( 44 ) Al-Ma'arij (The Ways of Ascent ) - Ayaa 44
Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised!

  • A guide for the new MuslimThis is a gift for all the new Muslims who currently know the right path to Allah. This is a means to strength and preserve their belief. In this book Sheikh Jamaal al-Din Zarabozo shows the fruits of becoming a Muslim, the excellent features of Islam and all aspects of Islam. Sheikh Jamaal illustrates the pillars of faith on which one’s belief is based and the pillars of Islam which contain the best practical deeds (e.g. prayer) and the best deeds of the heart i.e. the monotheism. As Islam is a social religion, Sheikh explains the Muslim’s behavior towards all individuals in the society, old or young, whether they embrace Islam or not. Afterwards he puts up some notice about both of the permissible and prohibited financial dealings. He also mentions the factors which increase the one’s belief and help the Muslim to abide by Allah’s commands. He refers to the obstacles (e.g. lust, misconception and ignorance) in the path of the Muslims prevent him from continuing his way to Allah. He also shows the prerequisites of the sincere repentance which is between the person and his God without a mediator. Finally, he gives a word for the new Muslim.

  • What a Muslim is required to know about his ReligionWe should know that the only way for our salvation in this life and in the hereafter is to know, for sure, our Lord who created us, believe in Him, and worship Him Alone. We should also know our prophet whom Allah had sent to us and to mankind, believe in Him and follow him. We should know the Religion of Truth which our Lord has commanded us to believe in and practice it.

  • WHY DO WE PRAY?Why does Man need to Pray?. After a long and hectic day at work, how difficult it is for a tired person to stand on the prayer-mat and concentrate on his prayers to Allah Almighty. Snuggled in a warm and cozy bed, how difficult it is to get up at the call of Mu’adhdhin: “Come to prayer, come to success.” The famous doctor and philosopher Ibn Sina (Avicenna), recalls such a moment in his life. Once cold and icy night, he and his slave were resting in an inn in a remote part of Khurasan. During the night he felt thirsty and shouted out to his slave to get him some water. The salve had no desire to leave his warm bed, so he pretended not to hear Avicenna’s call. But finally after repeated calls he reluctantly got up and went to fetch the water. A little while later, the melodious sound of the Adhan filled the air. Avicenna began to think about the person calling the believers to prayer.
