English - Transliteration
Sorah Abasa ( He frowned ) - Verses Number 42
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ( 1 ) 
AAabasa watawalla
أَن جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ ( 2 )
An jaahu al-aAAma
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ ( 3 )
Wama yudreeka laAAallahu yazzakka
أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ ( 4 )
Aw yaththakkaru fatanfaAAahu aththikra
أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ ( 5 )
Amma mani istaghna
فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ ( 6 )
Faanta lahu tasadda
وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ ( 7 )
Wama AAalayka alla yazzakka
وَأَمَّا مَن جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ ( 8 )
Waamma man jaaka yasAAa
وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ ( 9 )
Wahuwa yakhsha
فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ ( 10 )
Faanta AAanhu talahha
كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ ( 11 )
Kalla innaha tathkira
فَمَن شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ ( 12 )
Faman shaa thakarah
فِي صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ ( 13 )
Fee suhufin mukarrama
مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍ ( 14 )
MarfooAAatin mutahhara
بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ ( 15 )
Bi-aydee safara
كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ ( 16 )
Kiramin barara
قُتِلَ الْإِنسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ ( 17 )
Qutila al-insanu ma akfarah
مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ ( 18 )
Min ayyi shay-in khalaqah
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ ( 19 )
Min nutfatin khalaqahu faqaddarah
ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ ( 20 )
Thumma assabeela yassarah
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ ( 21 )
Thumma amatahu faaqbarah
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنشَرَهُ ( 22 )
Thumma itha shaa ansharah
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ ( 23 )
Kalla lamma yaqdi maamarah
فَلْيَنظُرِ الْإِنسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ ( 24 )
Falyanthuri al-insanuila taAAamih
أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا ( 25 )
Anna sababna almaasabba
ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا ( 26 )
Thumma shaqaqna al-arda shaqqa
فَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا ( 27 )
Faanbatna feeha habba
وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا ( 28 )
WaAAinaban waqadba
وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا ( 29 )
Wazaytoonan wanakhla
وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا ( 30 )
Wahada-iqa ghulba
وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا ( 31 )
Wafakihatan waabba
مَّتَاعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ ( 32 )
MataAAan lakum wali-anAAamikum
فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ ( 33 )
Fa-itha jaati assakhkha
يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ ( 34 )
Yawma yafirru almaro min akheeh
وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ ( 35 )
Waommihi waabeeh
وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ ( 36 )
Wasahibatihi wabaneeh
لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ ( 37 )
Likulli imri-in minhum yawma-ithinsha/nun yughneeh
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ ( 38 )
Wujoohun yawma-ithin musfira
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ ( 39 )
Dahikatun mustabshira
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ ( 40 )
Wawujoohun yawma-ithin AAalayhaghabara
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ ( 41 )
Tarhaquha qatara
أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ ( 42 )
Ola-ika humu alkafaratu alfajara

Idris al-Shafi’i, born in the year 150AH/767AD, to establish the principles by which the various legal doctrines could be synthesised into a coherent system. In the Risala, which laid down the basis for such a synthesis, al-Shafi’i established the overriding authority, next only to the Qur’an, of the Sunnah or example of the Prophet Muhammad as transmitted in the traditions.
