Sorah Al-A'la ( The Most High ) - Verses Number 19

سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى ( 1 )

Glorify the name of thy Guardian-Lord Most High,

الَّذِي خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ( 2 )

Who hath created, and further, given order and proportion;

وَالَّذِي قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ( 3 )

Who hath ordained laws. And granted guidance;

وَالَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الْمَرْعَىٰ ( 4 )

And Who bringeth out the (green and luscious) pasture,

فَجَعَلَهُ غُثَاءً أَحْوَىٰ ( 5 )

And then doth make it (but) swarthy stubble.

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰ ( 6 )

By degrees shall We teach thee to declare (the Message), so thou shalt not forget,

إِلَّا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ يَعْلَمُ الْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ ( 7 )

Except as Allah wills: For He knoweth what is manifest and what is hidden.

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ( 8 )

And We will make it easy for thee (to follow) the simple (Path).

فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ الذِّكْرَىٰ ( 9 )

Therefore give admonition in case the admonition profits (the hearer).

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ ( 10 )

The admonition will be received by those who fear (Allah):

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا الْأَشْقَى ( 11 )

But it will be avoided by those most unfortunate ones,

الَّذِي يَصْلَى النَّارَ الْكُبْرَىٰ ( 12 )

Who will enter the Great Fire,

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ ( 13 )

In which they will then neither die nor live.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ( 14 )

But those will prosper who purify themselves,

وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّىٰ ( 15 )

And glorify the name of their Guardian-Lord, and (lift their hearts) in prayer.

بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا ( 16 )

Day (behold), ye prefer the life of this world;

وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ ( 17 )

But the Hereafter is better and more enduring.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَفِي الصُّحُفِ الْأُولَىٰ ( 18 )

And this is in the Books of the earliest (Revelation),-

صُحُفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ ( 19 )

WHY DO WE PRAY?Why does Man need to Pray?. After a long and hectic day at work, how difficult it is for a tired person to stand on the prayer-mat and concentrate on his prayers to Allah Almighty. Snuggled in a warm and cozy bed, how difficult it is to get up at the call of Mu’adhdhin: “Come to prayer, come to success.” The famous doctor and philosopher Ibn Sina (Avicenna), recalls such a moment in his life. Once cold and icy night, he and his slave were resting in an inn in a remote part of Khurasan. During the night he felt thirsty and shouted out to his slave to get him some water. The salve had no desire to leave his warm bed, so he pretended not to hear Avicenna’s call. But finally after repeated calls he reluctantly got up and went to fetch the water. A little while later, the melodious sound of the Adhan filled the air. Avicenna began to think about the person calling the believers to prayer.
